What is the Bible?

The Bible is a record of God's work in the world and His purpose for all creatures. It was written over sixteen centuries by more than forty authors. It is a collection of 66 books with different styles, all speaking about God's purpose for us.

This collection of different books has various literary styles. It contains numerous narratives of good and evil people, accounts of wars and journeys, the life of Jesus, and the establishment of the church. It was written through narratives and dialogues, proverbs and parables, songs and aphorisms, history and prophecies.

In general, the stories in the Bible were not recorded as they happened. Instead, they were passed down orally from one generation to another before being written down. Nevertheless, teachings in different books are coherent. There is unity throughout the entire Bible despite events taking place in different periods.

Therefore, what is the Bible? In addition to all this, the Bible is:

• A guide to living a full life. It directs us on the tough journey of life. In our journey through life's ocean, the Bible is an anchor.
• Filled with engaging stories for children and adults alike. Do you remember Noah and the ark? Joseph's colorful coat? Daniel in the lion's den? Jonah and the fish? Parables of Jesus? These narratives highlight victories and struggles of ordinary people.
• A refuge in times of distress. The wounded, those suffering, those imprisoned, and those mourning demonstrate how turning to the Bible gave them strength during adversity.
• Full of knowledge about us. We are not robots but creatures of a loving God who has a purpose for our lives.
• A guide for daily living. It offers us direction, guidance, and commandments about our conduct with principles to aid us in a world where evil is often tolerated.
